Gem and Jewellery exports record 24.6% increase Sri Lanka's total exports in the Gem and Jewellery sector recorded an increase of 24.6% percent during 2004 compared to the performance in 2003; according to Director General, T. Piyadasa of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA). He said that Sri Lanka exported 28.62 Billion worth of Gems, Jewellery and Diamonds in 2003; while exports increased to Rs. 35.67 Billion during 2004. He said that increased awareness about the Sri Lankan Gems in major importing countries and the strong economics in U.S.A. and Europe were the main reasons for the above increase in Export earnings. |
