Tourist market will rebound rapidly Sri Lanka's tourist market would rebound rapidly despite the loss it suffered in the aftermath of the tsunami, said Executive Director Operations United Holidays Suresh Murugasen. He said that travel agents are now visiting Sri Lanka to assess the ground situation and they are very positive. They have understood that the tsunami damage has affected less than 2 per cent of the country.
"There are so many star hotels that are not damaged and in addition hotels inland, and the Cultural Triangle have not been damaged," he said. He said that some tourists decided to stay back even after witnessing the tsunami disaster since they liked the country and knew that it has more things to offer than the beaches. The whole West Coast is open for tourists and all agents know that Sri Lanka is not only a beach destination," he said. Murugasen said that the Sri Lanka Tourist Board took the right decision to tell foreigners visiting Sri Lanka to delay their itineraries for about a month. "Sri Lanka should not show tsunami debry to tourists," he said. He said that he was very happy in the manner foreign countries were helping to rebuild Sri Lanka. "The individuals too can contribute towards rebuilding Sri Lanka by visiting Sri Lanka and spending their dollars here," he said. |
