US dollars 441m. debt relief for Lanka in 2005

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has granted Sri Lanka a deferral of its repayments in 2005 to the tune of US$ 113.5 million. The Executive Board of the IMF took this decision on January 13 in response to a request by the Sri Lankan Government following the tsunami catastrophe.

The Sri Lanka police which had been working closely with Interpol based in Lyons, France, a suburb of Paris and its feeder sub station in Hongkong exchanging information for the past several years yesterday busted one of the largest rackets in international smuggling extending from the Far East through Sri Lanka to Europe.
