Tea exporters experience a better week

The uncertainty prevailed among tea exporters last week due to the appreciation of the rupee against the dollar has been reduced this week, tea brokers said.

The 2.9 Mkg of Low Growns that came under the hammer this week, met with improved demand with most prices advancing in value following the strengthening of the Dollar against the Sri Lanka Rupee, when compared with last week, JKl tea market report said. There was excellent demand for certain categories from Russia, whilst Iran, Dubai, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordon, Libya and other Middle Eastern Markets also lent useful support.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Crop for the period January to December 2004 has shown an increase of 4.9 Mkg when compared with the same period of 2003.
