Business in brief Sterling Minerals water processing plant Sterling Minerals (Pvt) Ltd, a newly incorporated company which has successfully completed their modern factory and plant at Kotagala will commence production next month. The plant is 1,200 ft above sea level on the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya road. The company has invested Rs. 14 million on this export oriented project. "Sterling" brand, the only Natural Mineral Water in Sri Lanka conforms to all international standards. The company will provide employment opportunities for 40 youth upcountry. Kumagai clears Galle Road after tsunami Kumagai Gumi Co. Ltd, a Japanese construction company, the main contractor for the ADB Funded Southern Transport Development Project (STDP) responded immediately to official requests and started cleaning the main road from Ambalangoda to Matara on December 27 after the tsunami occurred. The clearing work commenced from the Galle Police station and covered 80 Km of Route 2, on the Galle Road. The main purpose of this clearing was to clear the road in order to facilitate a clear passage from Colombo to bring in relief supplies by way of dry rations, clothing, medical supplies and fuel to the devastated areas in the South. |
