The recent tsunami waves which wreaked havoc in Sri Lanka are not
without any precedents, as the following extracts from 'The Weekly Ceylon
Observer' of August 28 1883 indicate. Apparently, tsunami waves were
observed along some stretches of Lanka's sea coast then and these were not
only reported faithfully in our pioneering local newspaper' The Weekly
