It was to coincide with the 1st anniversary of the formation of the United People's Freedom Alliance. Elimination of the unbridled reign of deceit and corruption and the writing off of a myopic political agenda of communal division were the driving forces that necessitated the formation of a People's Alliance, it said. The unpredicted and unprecedented rise of oil prices in the world market and the recent tsunami tragedy were among the major tasks the Freedom Alliance Government had to confront within this short span of time but the government managed to withstand these tribulations with courage and resilience, of course with the assistance of our own people and the international community. The People's Alliance Government has given employment to 41,000 unemployed graduates at once, an achievement unprecedented in our history and introduced a people-friendly budget based on a national policy envisaging a systematic march forward of the development process, the anniversary message stated. The UPFA is concerned with the identification of its frailties and dedicated to rectify errors in the interest of the public welfare. On completing one year's existence of the Freedom Alliance I wish you all strength and courage to defeat petty pursuits and act in unison to rebuild this nation, wished Minister Anura Bandaranaike. |
