Lankan players advance at 12th Asian Junior squash Three Sri Lankan players Nirasha Guruge, Yasir Issadeen and Harin Perera qualified to play the second round of the 12th Asian Junior Squash Championship which started at the Tamil Nadu Squash Rackets Association Acadamy in Chennai, India yesterday. Nirasha, the current National Champion won easily (9-2, 9-1, 9-0) against Korean player Kwon Sung Eun in the first round while Thomian Yasir, also won in straight sets beating Iranian Saman Tahwildaran 9-5, 9-2, 9-1. Perera who took part in the individual event had a hard fought win over Korea's Joen Hoon (9-6, 9-1,9-10, 9-1) to enter second round. Sri Lankan boy's team captain Eranga Alwis received a walk over from Baharein's Eiad Ali Samahiji. Two other boys Randima Ranaweera and Damindi Udangawa with less experience lost to Joey Chan from Hong Kong and India's V. Anvesta respectively in their first round. Nine countries are taking part in this tournament - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Korea, Singapore, Baharein, Iran, Kuwait, and Malaysia. |
