Thomians dominate Asian junior trials The trials for the selection of the national team for the Asian Junior Squash championships to be held in Chennai India concluded on 6th January at the Tamil Union squash complex. Thomian skipper Roshane Nanayakkara secured top position closely followed by Eranga Alwis (STC) as No. 2, Jayath Jayaratne (Royal) No. 3 and Yasir Issadeen (STC) in the fourth position. These players will comprise the national team (boys) representing Sri Lanka at the tournament from 20-28 January. In addition to this, another Thomian, Manesha Marambe will be taking part in the individual event. It is noteworthy to mention that the top three players of the team Roshane Nanayakkara, Eranga Alwis and Jayath Jayaratne as well as Manesha Marambe and Akitha Gunasekera who are taking part in the individual event are coached by veteran coach Lakdasa Cooray and his son Kavinda who is also a senior national player. The Thomians success was amply contributed by the guidance and support provided by ex-Thomian squash maestro Navin Samarasinghe and Manojith Weerasuriya. |
