Eminent scholar dead

An eminent Sinhala and English writer, translator and a scholar Munidasa Senerath Yapa has died. Yapa who has won many State awards for his literary career, has written 26 books.

'Aparadhaya Saha Danduwama' his first work is a translation, the first Russian novel translated into Sinhala.

A teacher by profession he has moulded many pupils who are holding top positions here and abroad.

Mr. Yapa was born at Ingiriya on 29th November, 1921, he started his education at Ingiriya Buddhist Mixed School now known as Sumanajothi Vidyalaya.

He expanded the Malalasekera dictionary by adding several thousands of new words and reproduced it as 'Sadarthavahinie', the first copy of which was presented to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse recently.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday February 2 at Ingiriya.
