Wijayasiri in Kandy Dr. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa a Senior Lecturer in Mass Media at the Kelaniya University said that those qualified Sri Lankan professionals serving in other countries should be invited to return to the island at least on a temporary basis and made available their services to the rebuilding of the country that was destroyed by tsunami. Dr. Piyadasa said so in a statement to the 'Daily News'. He added that there were a large number of Sri Lankan doctors, civil engineers, Architects and other professionals competent in various fields have gone abroad seeking greener pastures are serving in many countries, mostly in the West including United States. They should take into serious account the grave situation faced by their motherland due to the unprecedented tsunami disaster occurred on December 26. Large number of professionals and experts in various fields in other countries have come to Sri Lanka along with material relief from their countries to help the Sri Lankan people suffered by this unprecedented disaster. "Then why can't our own people-professionals and experts - take into serious consideration the need of their service to their motherland at this crucial juncture?" asked Dr. Piyadasa who added that an appeal should be made to all those qualified Sri Lankan professionals and experts to return to the island and made available their services to the rebuilding efforts of the motherland. They should take into sympathetic consideration the plight of lakhs of their fellow beings who have lost their houses and belongings and many who have lost their dear ones and living in camps for displaced persons, he added. |
