The reconstruction program of the Matara Town in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster got under way on Sunday under Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse’s patronage. Here, the Prime Minister with Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Deputy Minister of Urban Development Mahinda Amaraweera and Japan’s Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Shunzen Tanigawa who is now in the island and assisting in the Japanese relief work. Japanese Ambassador Akio Suda was also present.


Reconstruction of tsunami-damaged schools begin

Reconstruction of the 176 tsunami damaged schools got off the ground with international and local sponsors signing funding agreements with the Education and Treasury Secretaries Dr. Tara De Mel and Dr. P.B.Jayasundara at the Treasury, yesterday.
