Colombo District UPFA Parliamentarian and JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa yesterday said that it was yet not too late for the nation to grab the opportunity presented by nature to emerge from the ashes and rebuild the country along a strategic vision. Making a special statement in Parliament Weerawansa explained that the JVP Parliament group decided not to participate in the "Tsunami debate" purely to register its protest at the failure to grab the golden opportunity to work for the country's advancement and also to once again focus the attention of all on the need to grab this opportunity for the sake of the country. "We are not yet too late. We still have time to grab this opportunity to unite the entire nation and to take the country towards prosperity." Weerawansa added. Weerawansa said from the beginning they proposed that the country should take this opportunity to reach a consensus among political parties for the betterment of the country. "We have missed that golden opportunity," he said. He said though they have missed that opportunity some people are exploiting this opportunity to reach their narrow objectives, in a strategic manner. "That is why separatist groups are bringing weapons hidden in tsunami relief aid," he added. Weerawansa said the problems raised over the distribution of tsunami aid were not difficult. "But we will not get this golden chance to usher peace and to guide the country to the path of progress again," he said. |
