The sun seems to be shining on the village of Patanangala bordering the Yala National Park which was among the worst hit by the boxing day tsunami, as seen by tradesmen enthusiastically laying out their dried fish under the scorching noon day sun. Despite the aversion by some for sea food following the tsunami these villagers though appear to be having a good market for their dried fish.

Presidential poll on or before Nov. 2006 - Mangala

The Government yesterday announced it will hold the presidential election on or before November 12 next year, reiterating the President had no intention of postponing the poll as alleged by the Opposition. Cabinet spokesman Minister Mangala Samaraweera said it was not the custom of the UPFA or the President to delay elections.

Nehru, Kaushalyan killers' intention to sabotage Ceasefire Agreement

Strongly condemning Monday's slaying of former Tamil Parliamentarian Chandra Nehru and LTTE Eastern leader Kaushalyan, the Government yesterday declared that the killers' intention were to sabotage the long intact Ceasefire Agreement.

Italy relaxes post tsunami travel advisory on Sri Lanka

The Italian Government has agreed to relax its post-tsunami travel advisory pertaining to Sri Lanka enabling its nationals uninterrupted travel to the island. The Italian Government took this decision on February 10, the Daily News learns.
