Wijeyasiri in Kandy The CWC Minister of Industries, Infrastructure, Tamil Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, Velusamy Radhakrishnan said that a section of the media (not the Lake House) has been carrying on an intensive false publicity campaign alleging that the CWC would quit the United People's Freedom Alliance Government. But its leader Arumugan Thondaman would provide maximum support to the Government led by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and further strengthen the Government. Minister Radhakrishnan who was sworn-in as the Council Minister made the above statement at a ceremony held recently at the Ministry Office, Getambe, Peradeniya. In reply to false allegations that three CWC MPs are to leave the party and the CWC support to the Government would be withdrawn and join with the Opposition, he had been asked by CWC Leader Arumugam Thondaman to takeover the ministry in the Central Province and prove the fact that the CWC would stay with the Government of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga unchanged. Minister Radhakrishnan said, "My party's policy is to work for the welfare of the people. That objective could be fulfilled only by staying within the ruling party. In the near future CWC Leader Thondaman would take over a Cabinet portfolio and strengthen the Alliance Government. "Ours is a minority people's party so that we never ask for offices of the President, Prime Minister or Chief Minister. The Alliance is holding fort in the Central Provincial Council and it would be more strengthened by the CWC. Therefore our party could work with the Alliance in the Council too. I pledge to extend my fullest support to the Chief Minister and the Board of Ministers of the Council to ensure maximum service to the province," added Minister Radhakrishnan. Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said that accepting the office of Minister by CWC was a special strength to the council. Unlike the previous council, the present council was in full power in the council so that the UNP could not pull their legs. Now all the members unite and work to deliver goods to the people. |
