by Ranjith Premadasa The honorary title of "Dharmakeerthi Sri Sumangala" and the Chief Adhikarana Sanghanayake title of Sathkorale will be conferred on Ven. Deldeniye Ratanasara Thera on Saturday. A religious ceremony in this connection will be held at the Malwatte Maha Viharaya, Kandy with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse. Anunayake of the Malwatte Chapter Most Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera will preside. An erudite Bhikku, Ven. Ratanasara Thera is the Chief Incumbent of the Veherapitiya Vidyarthodaya Piriven Viharaya, Polgahawela and the Sri Pothgul Viharaya, Imbulgoda. A welcoming ceremony has been organised in honour of the Ven. Thera on March 6 at the Veherapitiya Piriven Viharaya. An all-night pirith ceremony will be held on the same night, followed by a Sanghika Dana to invoke merit on all Bhikkus of the Pirivena who have passed away and also on the victims of the tsunami disaster. Members of the Maha Sangha, Ministers, MPs, Provincial Councillors, Municipal Council members and distinguished personalities of the area will participate. Ven. Ratanasara Thera has rendered a yeoman service to the Sasana over the years. He was ordained under the tutelage of Ven. Walgowwagoda Sri Sumangala Thera at the Veherapitiya Pirivena. He received further knowledge of Buddhist teaching under Ven. Keselwathugoda Sri Rathanajothi Thera and Ven. Mailewe Srinivasa Thera. He has received further education and qualifications from the Buddhasravaka University, Anuradhapura, Kelaniya University, the Buddhist and Pali University and the National Institute of Education. He has authored several Dhamma books. |
