Speedy clearance for relief, reconstruction goods

THE Government yesterday announced a series of measures to expedite the clearance of relief and reconstruction goods entering the country.Under the new terms announced by Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, most items will be cleared duty free for speedy distribution under the relevant government authorities and personnel.

Police and Security Forces open fire to quell violence in Jaffna following schoolgirl's death

POLICE and Security Forces yesterday opened fire at agitators protesting over the death of a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Jaffna after they set fire to a Sri Lanka Freedom Party office, two Army bunkers and pelted stones at Security Forces, Military and Police told the Daily News.
