Police and Security Forces open fire to quell violence in Jaffna following schoolgirl's death
 

POLICE and Security Forces yesterday opened fire at agitators protesting over the death of a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Jaffna after they set fire to a Sri Lanka Freedom Party office, two Army bunkers and pelted stones at Security Forces, Military and Police told the Daily News.

LTTE child conscription: UNICEF stands firm
 

IN response to the LTTE denial on Thursday, UNICEF stood firm by its latest numbers on reported cases of child conscription saying their statements are based on personally verified data. "We have been monitoring the recruitment of child soldiers for a number of years now and we have been consistent with our demands for the release of these children," UNICEF spokesperson Marixie Mercado told the Daily News yesterday.
