THE United National Party is said to be busy with arrangements to launch demonstrations throughout the Southern Province by using fake tsunami victims and UNP loyalists to protest against the Government on March 26 to coincide with the completion of three months since the tsunami catastrophe.

Nearly 75,000 tourists arrive in January, February

 

Despite the tsunami effect on the country's tourism industry, 74,832 tourist arrivals have been indicated for January and February alone. "The tourism sector is one of the major foreign exchange earners. However, the tsunami hit the country when the local tourism sector was rapidly developing.

Monitoring system to supervise tsunami affected schools

 

The Ministry of Education has commenced a monitoring system to supervise the Reconstruction and Relief Program of the tsunami affected school education sector. The Monitoring Unit will have a very close relationship with the donors who are handling reconstruction of schools, with TAFREN, the Provincial Education authorities and the District Secretaries.

Government, JAAF sign MOU:

Rs.50 m for apparel sector image building


THE Government has allocated Rs. 50 million for an international image building program targeting to enhance value of Sri Lankan apparels which would enable the industry to successfully withstand the quota free era. The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Investment Promotion and the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) signed a MoU yesterday in this regard.
