Italy, France block EU deal for apparels
Hopes of a quick deal to end EU trade barriers
for the tsunami-ravaged countries in Asia have been dashed after
Italy and France blocked reform plans. A campaign by the European
Commission to secure preferential tariffs for Sri Lanka and other
Asian countries that export textiles to the Continent has been
obstructed by member states fearful of a surge in cheap clothing
imports.

EC's GSP+ scheme to delay by three months
The new GSP+ Scheme of the European Commission
giving zero duty for Sri Lanka's GSP eligible exports to the 25
member states of the EU which was scheduled to have come into effect
by April 01 may now take two to three months to get implemented, the
Department of Commerce said.
