Lanka Bell to expand network
Lanka Bell has received approval from the Sri Lanka
Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to proceed with an
expansion project which would make available world class
telecommunications including, voice, fax, e-mail and internet facilities
to areas in the Country that are not yet connected, using cutting edge
CDMA technology.
Company sources said millions of US dollars will be pumped into this
project, which is one of Lanka Bell's biggest focus areas, this year.
The 'next generation' CDMA technology, which has revolutionised the
wireless industry, significantly enhances service capabilities far more
than that of other digital technologies.
Connectivity will be just a matter of a wireless handset with an
antenna with the end-user benefiting by immediate connectivity as well
as low cost calls, which is a direct benefit of the CDMA technology
through Lanka Bell.
Short for Code Division Multiple Access, CDMA is a new generation
digital telecommunications technology that uses 'spread spectrum'
technique. This means that information contained in a particular signal
covers a much greater bandwidth, thereby providing superior voice
clarity and higher data speeds resulting in providing better
communications.
"We are happy to play a significant role in the Government's vision
of economic empowerment to the people in rural Sri Lanka and look
forward to implementing the project as quickly as possible" said Deputy
Managing Director of Lanka Bell, Suren Goonewardene. |
