JHU MP, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera yesterday urged the government
to look into the death sentence imposed on a Sri Lankan working in Saudi
Arabia.
"This Sri Lankan Edirisinghe Jayasuriyage Victor Corea has been
sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia. But still the Saudi authorities have
not informed the reasons for this sentence to his family or the Sri
Lankan Embassy there," said the Thera adding that the government should
pay serious attention to this.
Ven. Rathana Thera said the Asia Human Rights Organisation had
officially informed the Sri Lankan Government on this.
"It is these Sri Lankan expatriates who are earning the country's
highest foreign exchange. So we must ensure their welfare. I request the
government to take swift measures in this regard," the Thera said. |
