Three months later, tsunami warning system a local affair
TOKYO, Friday (AFP) Three months after giant waves plundered Indian
Ocean coastlines without warning, the passion to build a regional
tsunami warning system has given way to a realization that safety is
local. The world responded with outrage when it learned that thousands
of lives could have been saved had the Indian Ocean planned ahead with
an alert system for waves of the type caused by the December 26
earthquake off Sumatra.
