Hard fought win for Schools u-15
The Sri Lanka Schools under 15 team pulled off a hard fought two
wicket victory over Bangladesh under 15 team in the invitation
international triangular limited overs cricket tournament opening match
played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
The visitors batting first after winning the toss were shot out for
just 123 runs in less than 25 overs but the Sri Lanka Schools team in
reply really struggled throughout the innings before reaching their
target in the 41st over with two wickets to spare.
The Bangladesh under 15 team put up an inspiring performance on the
field after their batting had failed before Maliyadeva College all
rounder Wimanga Perera batting at number seven hit a matchwinning knock
of 36 not out with D. S. Senanayake schoolboy Malith Wickremasinghe
making a useful contribution of 24 runs.
Earlier Royal's left arm paceman Yasitha Abeykoon rocked the
Bangladesh under 15 team with a superb spell of bowling claiming 5 for
37 from his ten overs. He received good support from Mayura Silva who
captured 2 for 18.
The tournament will be continued today with Bangladesh playing
against Malaysia at the De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa. The two top teams
are expected to meet in the final on May 7 at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
