Jayasuriya in the runs for Somerset
Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya was among the runs for English
county Somerset whom he is representing this season.
Jayasuriya followed his knock of 32 off 41 balls (5 fours) on Sunday
against Leicestershire in a one-day National League match with a
stunning half-century on Tuesday.
The hard hitting left-hander cracked 61 off 49 balls with one six and
nine fours to enable Somerset run up an impressive 325-6 off 44 overs
and then restrict Surrey to 226-9 off 44 overs and win on the duckworth
and lewis rule by 99 runs at Taunton. He also picked up a wicket for 18
runs off five overs. Jayasuriya's Sri Lankan team mate Upul Chandana had
less fortunes playing for Gloucestershire against Hampshire at the Rowe
Bowl in Southampton.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder was dismissed for nine batting at no. 5
and was unsuccessful with the ball conceding 28 runs off six overs
although his county registered a 60-run win.
The other two Sri Lankans playing in the county circuit also had
limited success in the National League. Spinner Muttiah Muralitharan
took one wicket for 28 runs off nine overs to help Lancashire defeat
Nottinghmahsire by one run in a thriller at Old Trafford.
Fast bowler Chaminda Vaas took one wicket for 31 runs off 8.4 overs
but could not prevent Worcestershire from losing to Middlesex by three
wickets at Lord's. |
