Bankruptcy looms for CEB
THE Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) faces an imminent crash, with far
reaching consequences for the economy, if it is not restructured
urgently, top sources familiar with the issue asserted yesterday. They
pointed out that the Government banks cannot afford to inject more funds
to the CEB as it already owes Rs.90 billion to the People's Bank alone.
The CEB recorded a massive loss of Rs.39.3 billion in 2004.
