Action taken to rebuild 46,000 houses damaged by NE war

ACTION has been taken by the Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction
Ministry to rebuild 46,000 houses damaged by the North-East war, under
the North-East Housing Rebuilding Project (NEHRP) implemented with
assistance provided by the world Bank, in four instalments.
The project covering 8 districts in the Northern and Eastern
provinces is estimated to cost 900 million rupees and is implemented
through the North East Provincial Council.
According to a press release issued by the Central Information and
Media Unit of the Department of Information the rebuilding process will
be carried out from year 2005 to 2008.
A sum of Rs. 250,000 will be given for a fully damaged and Rs.
150,000 for a partly damaged house.
There are 36,000 fully damaged and 9,200 partly damaged houses due to
war in the North and East.
The International Development Assistance Program (IDA) will also
provide assistance.
The NEHRP has already started a pilot project in 29 villages in the
North-East, for the rebuilding of 860 damaged houses.
This project is scheduled to be completed by October this year. |
