PARENTS of an infant, born at the De Soyza Maternity Hospital, lodged
a complaint at Borella Police yesterday against a nurse who had
allegedly cut off a fingertip of the child while removing a plaster in
the little finger, police said.
The infant's parents from Jaya Mawatha, Wellampitiya lodged the
complaint at Borella Police against the nurse who allegedly cut off the
infant's fingertip on May 19, five days after she was born.
The doctor at the hospital's Ward no 5 had instructed the nurse to
remove the plaster in Malitha Nimeshka Kavindi's little finger and to
discharge her and her mother.
The alleged mishap had occurred after this, the parents said.
According to the parents, the hospital authorities including the
nurse, had tried to cover up the incident by consoling them.
The parents later told they had come to know that the nurse had tried
to join the fingertip after a surgery at Lady Ridgeway Hospital after
making the infant unconscious.
The parents are expected to take legal action against the nurse. |
