Conditions for sexual abuse

Be alert, be vigilant ! this is the most important message that can be given to all girl children, girls and women who live in society. It is obvious that a lot of crimes, harassment and abuse take place in our society today and most of the victims of those crimes are women and children.

If you are vigilant enough and have an iota of brains you can escape most of the crimes.

No one can say that being vigilant and intelligent will save all women from all crimes executed on them but it will work to a certain extent and it will be a significant degree.

May be being alert and intelligent will not save a woman from a serious crime but at least it will give her some time to delay the crime, save her from death and future frustration.

Last week all newspapers reported an interesting story about how a private bus driver and the conductor raped an innocent garment girl who came to her workplace in the morning after the long Vesak weekend.

Anyone who read that news item will understand that the victims had a very good chance to escape if she was vigilant enough and had an iota of brains! A woman does not need an education or high IQ to have common sense. This is not the first time this type of incident occurred in a bus. Earlier similar incidents took place during the night but not in broad daylight.

Are you a girl who accepts any type of 'special treatment' or favour from anyone under normal conditions? Do you answer all the questions accurately when someone ask questions from you? Do you have enough courage not to get down from a bus when all the other passengers get down after the bus reaches its destination? Then you are the victim of the next rape to take place anywhere in Sri Lanka. According to the police the conductor shut down all the tinted windows and doors and the bus with only the girl and the two member crew made its way towards Bastian Mawatha.

It was around 3.30 pm, at Bastian Mawatha, adjoining the Manning Market, when the driver gagged the girl and gave into his animal instincts savagely raping his victim.

The suspect driver is a father of two children and he had confessed to Police that he engaged in the "act" frequently by first charming his unsuspecting victims. According to the girl, from the time she boarded the bus, the driver was trying to get "fresh" with her and had asked for her baggage and even had offered her a seat near him.

During the journey the driver had engaged in a "chit-chat" with the lass asking about her family, place of work and etc.

These days if a lady gets a seat in a crowded private bus unless she is pregnant, disabled or a Dasa Sill Matha, it is one of the seven wonders of the world!
