Public rallies to support Joint Mechanism
The National Anti War Front together with a large number of other
organizations, representing trade unions, religious leaders, political
parties, civil society organizations will be having a demonstration and
a public rally to support the Joint Mechanism on June 9 (today). The
process will begin at 2 p.m. and the public meeting will be held till 7
p.m.
Over 2000 people will joint the event. This initiative was taken by
the National Anti War Front in its efforts to create a broad platform of
support for the Joint Mechanism. District meetings and rallies will
follow throughout the country.
Japanese Senior Vice Minister to visit Lanka
Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Ichiro Aisawa will
be in Sri Lanka for three days. He was scheduled to arrive here
yesterday.
The Vice Minister's visit to Sri Lanka is primarily to discuss
bilateral as well as international cooperations between the two
countries, including the post tsunami assistance. Aisawa is scheduled to
meet Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and others, the Japanese
Embassy said.
Daily News staffer's father dies
Captain N. G. Munidasa (Rtd SL Army) passed away on Wednesday after a
brief illness. The funeral will take place on Saturday 3 p.m. at
Habarakada cemetery.
He is the father of Anjalie Garnier of the Daily News staff and
Sarath Weerasuriya of ANCL production department and the father-in-law
of Gary Garnier, Chief Sub-Editor Daily News. |
