KOICA donates vehicle to HRC
THE Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) donated a
four-wheel drive vehicle worth US$ 22,000 to the Human Rights Commission
of Sri Lanka recently.
KOICA donated the vehicle to Human Rights Commission chairperson Dr.
Radhika Coomaraswamy. The Commission needs more vehicles to travel to
the Southern, Northern and Eastern provinces in order to monitor human
rights protection in the tsunami relief and reconstruction process.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka, Lim Jae-hong, was
the guest of honour at the handover ceremony.
He was accompanied by Young Tae Han and Young Ah Doh who are Resident
Representative and the Deputy Representative of KOICA respectively.
The ambassador speaking on the occasion said. "The Republic of Korea
supports the protection and promotion of human rights all over the
world.
"Sri Lanka and Korea have maintained good understanding and
cooperation on human rights issues at an international level."
He, extending his best wishes to the Commission's officials said that
the new vehicle would be useful in the Commission's human rights
monitoring missions in the tsunami affected regions. |
