KOICA donates vehicle to HRC

THE Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) donated a four-wheel drive vehicle worth US$ 22,000 to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka recently.

KOICA donated the vehicle to Human Rights Commission chairperson Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy. The Commission needs more vehicles to travel to the Southern, Northern and Eastern provinces in order to monitor human rights protection in the tsunami relief and reconstruction process.

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka, Lim Jae-hong, was the guest of honour at the handover ceremony.

He was accompanied by Young Tae Han and Young Ah Doh who are Resident Representative and the Deputy Representative of KOICA respectively.

The ambassador speaking on the occasion said. "The Republic of Korea supports the protection and promotion of human rights all over the world.

"Sri Lanka and Korea have maintained good understanding and cooperation on human rights issues at an international level."

He, extending his best wishes to the Commission's officials said that the new vehicle would be useful in the Commission's human rights monitoring missions in the tsunami affected regions.
