Forty four member rowing pool selected
 

THE Colombo Rowing Club has picked 23 oarswomen in addition to the 21 oarsmen for intensive training in preparation for the annual Madras-Colombo Regatta to be held on July 9 on the Beira Water.

Chanaka Wickremasinghe, the Captain of Boats and Colombo Rowing Club coach said that all 44 rowers are training daily.

Madras Boat Club has accepted the invitation from Colombo Rowing Club to compete at the regatta. The 21-member Madras rowing team comprising of 10 oarsmen, five oarswomen, four veteran rowers and two officials will arrive on July 5.

The oarsmen and oarswomen will participate in ten events. The men will row in the 'A' and 'B' Scull, 'A' and 'B' Pairs, 'A' and 'B' Fours and Veterans Fours. Meanwhile the women will row in Sculls, Pairs and Fours.

Last year Colombo Rowing Club emerged champs by obtaining 22 points to Madras Boat Club 20 points in the regatta held in Chennai. They carried away the Deepam Challenge Trophy.

The CRC women rowers are: Sashini Amarasuriya, Shadeena Mendis, Savani Dissanayake, Anya Ratnayake, Gayesha Wijemanne, Shiyana Welikala, Varunika Samarasinghe, Gayani Boteju, Amanthi Weerasinghe, Shayani de Silva, Minuri Amarasuriya, Uvini Atapattu, Hiroshi Goonewardena, Miyuru Jayatileke, Sachitra Jayatileke, Naduni Perera, Malindri de Alwis, Piyumi Jayasekera, Menaka Kolonne, Sanjeevani Kularatne, Vinuri Jayasundara, Nilakshika Deheragoda, Gimani Vidanagamage.
