Peace paramount importance - German Ambassador

ACHIEVEMENT of peace is of paramount importance for the progress and development of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka state had to fight a costly war with the Tigers for nearly twenty years, which has cost many young lives on both sides and maimed or killed several innocent people due to bombs and rocket attacks, said Juergen Weerth, the German Ambassador addressing a dinner meeting hosted for him by the Sri Lanka-German Friendship Society.

The meeting was held at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo, presided over by President of the society, Ursula Dimont.

Weerth said two years of peace in the country since the signing of the MoU with the assistance of Norway has brought about a very significant development in all aspects of the economy and all over the country including the North and East.
