Neethiya marks 15 years in print

"NEETHIYA" Sinhala Law Magazine's 14th and 15th editions first copy was handed over to the Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC recently at the Chief Justice's Chambers by the Editorial Board of the Neethiya Magazine.

The non publication of law books and existing laws in Sinhala has caused difficulties to Judges, lawyers, law students and others connected to law books, the Chief Justice said.

The Chief Justice emphasised that in order to minimise such difficulties the "Neethiya" inaugural issue was launched on November 15, 1990.

From then it has developed into a full fledged law journal replete with valuable articles, judgements, new legal enactments and legal news due to the enthusiasm and dedication of the officials of the legal Foundation.

"I wish all courage and strength to the Editorial Board of Neethiya to carry forward this valuable endeavour to great success," the Chief Justice added.

A special feature in the latest "Neethiya" law magazine is an article written by young Aruni Gooneratne, a would-be lawyer, on the book titled "Sadaham Maga" authored by the Chief Justice.

The Patron of our Law Foundation (Neethiya Padanama) met the Chief Justice to discuss the matters connected with the souvenir of "Neethiya" magazine.

The Chief Justice returned with a book written by him titled "Sadaham Maga."

We should admire the Chief Justice's knowledge in Buddhism and his willingness to share that knowledge with the others, Aruni had stated in her article to the "Neethiya."

Neethiya first published in 1990, its inaugural issue was launched by the then Chief Justice Parinda Ranasinghe.

Due to the dearth of legal publications in Sinhala, 'Neethiya' has been in great demand ever since, among the legal community, including practitioners, academics, judges, law students, law enforcement officers and other interested, said Upali A. Gooneratne, parent of the Neethiya Editorial Board.

The latest issue of Neethiya is enriched by articles on a variety of topics on the law written by distinguished specialists, notes on cases and on recent statutes, legal news, tables of cases and other contents, Gooneratne said.
