STF helps tsunami-hit colleague

SENIOR and junior members of the Special Task Force (STF) had collected Rs.300,000 to be donated to Constable Silva of the STF whose house was destroyed by the tsunami last December.

Constable Silva lost his house at Sri Gnanawimala Mawatha, Kosgoda and other belongings. All STF members assisted Constable Silva. "We will donate Rs.300,000 to him to rebuild the house in Kosgoda," DIG Lewke said.

lecturer remanded in sexual assault case

A Jaffna University Lecturer was remanded for sexually assaulting his 16-year-old servant girl. The girl from Puthukuddierppu in Vanni who attempted to commit suicide was saved by her relatives.

The girl admitted to Jaffna Teaching hospital had said she attempted to commit suicide as the lecturer had sexually assaulted her.

Jaffna police who arrested the lecturer, produced him before Jaffna Additional Magistrate Srinithi Nandasegaram.

The Magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded till September 6.
