Lanka take mixed doubles in Satellite badminton

TOP seed Chetan Anand of India and Sujitra Ekkongkolpaiser of Thailand clinched the men's and women's singles title respectively at the Satellite Open badminton championships organised by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association and concluded at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium courts yesterday.

Anand defeated Yowv Thien Law of Malaysia in straight sets 15-3, 15-4 in the men's final while Ekkongkolpaiser had the better of Monthila Meemaka of Thailand also in straight sets 11-7, 11-2 in the women's singles final.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka's Thushara Edurisinghe and Chadrika de Silva won the mixed doubles title while overcoming Niluka Karunaratne and Thilini Jayasinghe 11-15, 15-11, 15-12 in the final.

The men's doubles title went to Nattapon Naktong and Siwath Koosakumthum from Thailand who beat the Sri Lankan pair of Thushara Edirisinghe and Duminda Jayakody 15-5, 15-7.

In the women's doubles final Trupti Murugande and Meenakshi of India defeated Monthila Meemek and Soratja Chansrisukot of Thailand 15-9, 9-15, 15-6.
