Three soldiers injured in grenade attack

Three soldiers and a police constable of a combined foot patrol were injured in a grenade attack in Iruthayapuram, Batticaloa yesterday.

According to Army sources, the incident took place around 12.55 pm at Iruthayapuram, a hamlet 1.5 km away from Batticaloa. Two men riding on a motorcycle lobbed a grenade at the foot patrol injuring three soldiers and a police constable, army sources said.

The Army retaliated immediately but the two men escaped. The injured soldiers were privates R.M.S. Chandana, A.M. Adikari,and H.A Ajithkumara. The police constable was P. Somasiri. They are being treated at the Batticaloa General hospital sources said.
