Japanese universities plan to recruit Lankan students
Officials from the Japan Student Service Organisation and Japanese
Education Ministry are visiting Sri Lanka to recruit students for
undergraduate courses and post graduate courses at Japanese
universities.
As the initial step, a seminar will be conducted on 'Opportunities
available for higher education in Japan' by The Japan Student Service
Organisation (JASSO) in association with the Embassy of Japan and The
Japanese Graduates Alumni Association of Sri Lanka on October 2 at Hotel
Trans Asia from 9.00 a.m. to noon.
Two hundred participants will be entertained at this seminar free.
Those interested should be present by 8.00 a.m. at the registration desk
at "Kings Court" Trans Asia to register and participate for this
seminar.
Scholarships are available for deserving candidates.
Officials from Japan Student Service Organisation (JASSO) and
Japanese Minister of Education will brief participants on opportunities
in medicine, engineering, dental surgery, IT, management, economics and
other fields of studies and avenues available for scholarships.
Memorial certificate for musician
Music director and singer Shirly Waijayantha was awarded the L.H.
Chandrananda memorial certificate at the Rathnadeepa award ceremony at
Sri Pushpadana Hall, Kandy for his outstanding contribution to music and
singing.
The ceremony was organised by the Hill Country Cultural and Art
Association.
PM to be felicitated
Vidyodaya - Sri Jayawardanapura University Graduates Union will meet
today at Temple Trees at 6.00 p.m. to felicitate and pledge their
support to SLFP Presidential candidate Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse.
Memoriam service
The Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs of Wattala will celebrate a memoriam
service for past District Governor Gemunu Gunatilleke at the Good
Shepherd Convent Chapel, Hendala, Wattala tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Rev. Fr. Trevor Martin, principal, Loyala College, Negombo will be
the celebrant at this service..
Handing over of Symbolic Key
Rev. Fr. Felician Ranjith Perera will officially hand over the
Symbolic Key of St. Peter's College, Colombo 4 to Rev. Fr. Travis
Gabriel today.
A special Eucharistic celebration will precede the farewell and
welcome ceremony. Rev. Fr. Ivan Perera, National Director of Education
and General Manager of Catholic Schools will preside.
Exhibition
An exhibition of products by students of Green Wood International
College, Matale Road, followed by a stage programme will be held at the
college tomorrow from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9.00
a.m. to noon. |
