Defeat looming for Ranil, says Lankans Organisation in Japan

Certain defeat is staring in the face of UNP Presidential Candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe as all nationalistic forces concerned about the unity and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka have already rallied behind the SLFP Presidential Candidate Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse to ensure his victory, states Saman Priyankara, organising Secretary, Sri Lanka National Organisation in Japan in a press release yesterday.

The release said just like the proverbial drowning man trying to hang on to a straw, Wickremesinghe and his friends are now harking on a purported casual remark made by JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe referring to Sri Lanka's Armed Forces.

Every country has an Army to safeguard its territorial integrity. An Army which cannot perform that major responsibility is only a nominal Army which is useless. This is what Amarasinghe would have meant. Any child with an iota of intelligence will understand this, he said.

Amarasinghe had never stated that the Army should be disbanded. But the UNP media clique is trying to attack the Prime Minister and the Nationalistic forces by distorting Amarasinghe's statement.

The statement said it was Wickremesinghe who betrayed the Armed Forces and Police by signing the ceasefire agreement with the LTTE.
