Smoke without fire hits SLMM

A huge pall of smoke which appeared inside the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) guest house in Mannar forced the monitors to leave the place in the middle of the night on Wednesday.

According to SLMM sources the huge black smoke appeared when three monitors were fast asleep in their rooms.

Later it was found that the smoke appeared due to a electrical leakage from an airconditioner in one of the rooms.

Following the fire alarm the monitors were able to put the smoke under control with a fire extinguisher. Five SLMM monitors have been based in Mannar since the ceasefire agreement came into effect in 2002.
