Akbar tea wins International Brand of the Year Award

The Akbar Brand marketed by the Akbar Brothers Group of Companies was chosen for the International Brand of the Year Award for 2005 by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing at the awards ceremony held last week at Water's Edge.

The award was received by Asgi Akbarally and the Brand Champion's Certificate by Hatim Akbarally, Directors of the Akbar Brothers Group of Companies.

Last year, Akbar Brothers won the International Brand of the year award for their Alghazaleen Brand.

With Alghazaleen and Akbar Brand commanding market leadership, Akbar Brothers is now positioned as Sri Lanka's largest marketer of Branded Pure Ceylon Tea Products.

Akbar Brand is marketed in over 70 countries worldwide. The Brand has recorded impressive growth during the last three years. "Our Brand strategy is to maintain and expand the focus of being a premium blend of Ceylon Tea, sought after by customers worldwide for its taste, aroma and liquor.

We stay focused on continuous innovations of product lines, packaging and processing," - Director of the Akbar Brothers Group of Companies Asgi Akbarally said.

The selection of the Brand was done by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing through a stringent judging process. The final stage of the judging involved a verbal presentation of the Brand's success story to the Panel of Judges followed by questions from the panel.

The panel of judges consisted of top marketeers of the country and included Prasanna Perera, Prof. K. U. Kamalgoda, Asita Indrajith Abeysekera, Lasantha Abeywickrama, Claude Perera, Stanley Carvalho, Kishu Gomes and Kingsley Bernard.
