FMM condemns attack on Sunday Leader Press

The Free Media Movement yesterday condemned the arson attack on the press of the Sunday Leader publications 'in the backdrop of the current political debates centring on the upcoming Presidential elections becoming the main focus of the country'.

Issuing a statement in this regard Convenor of the Free Media Movement Sunanda Deshapriya described the attack as direct threat against media freedom while also being an impediment to the holding of a free and fair election.

It is the responsibility of the Government to ensure the right of publication is protected to enable the public to make informed decisions.

The FMM calls on the Government and police to launch an immediate investigation to bring the perpetrators of the act before the law.
