Anandasangaree condemns Principals slayings

The assassinations of the Principals of two leading colleges in Jaffna within a span of 24 hours should be condemned by everybody.

These killings have sent a shock wave throughout the teaching community and have caused immense grief to the students, parents and teachers. Both Mr. Rajadurai and Mr. Sivagadacham are considered to be very good administrators and had taken a lot of pain to develop these colleges. If this trend continues we will be left only with self seekers and stooges to run our schools, TULF leader V. Anandasangaree said yesterday.

He said: "The recent spate of killings in the North and the Government's failure to check this trend is also causing fear and tension to everyone. I understand that after the recent killing of the SSP in Inuvil and another police officer in Nelliady, the police officers are reluctant to take action against any offender. The government should take immediate steps to take full control of the cleared areas and create a situation for the people to live peacefully.

The LTTE blaming the army for the spate of killings in the North cannot be accepted. What interest the army has in killing a Brahim priest, a principal of a school or a woman selling kassippu. In any case no one has any right to take the life of anybody. I appeal to the so called reformists to leave our people alone. They will look after themselves."
