Developing women's cricket is an Asian responsibility - Gwen Herat
tells PCB Officials
Gwen Herat, President of Sri Lanka Cricket/WC and Women's Cricket
Association of Sri Lanka told the officials of the Pakistan Cricket
Board that it is the responsibility of the countries' mens Boards to
develop women's cricket in the Asia region. As Sri Lanka and Pakistan
are already involved with women's cricket and India sitting in the ICC
women's Chair, there will be no looking back.
Pakistan hosting the Asia Cup is a very healthy indication of their
support, she told Saleem Altaf, Subhan Ahmaed and Abba Zahidi of the PCB
at their headquarters in Lahore. She told the officials how the three
countries are passionate about the game but lack of funds was the main
worry.
She told the officials of Singer support she gets but we cannot
expect them to shoulder the entire responsibility and hence Sri Lanka
Cricket support is of great importance.
She explained briefly the domestic structure of the game which the
WCASL has taken to schools with assigned coaches from WCASL for
training. In the near future, we hope to establish under 15 and 17 teams
with Singer sponsoring the programme. But she said, we lack the
much-needed inter-club programme because of lack of funds, an area of
grave importance. If we can get these two schedules going, it will and
more clout to women's cricket future.
She informed the PCB of the up-coming England tour as well as the MCC
team arriving early next year. She also told the PCB officials she is
more focused at the next World Cup four years hence and will start
training once the tour schedules are over. |
