A new Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development has been established
under Article 44 (1) of the Constitution from October 24, the
Presidential Secretariat said yesterday.
Ballot papers for the Jaffna electoral district, the only area not
accessible through land, was airlifted from the Ratmalana airbase to
Palali in an Air Force helicopter on Monday.
The Governor of Kochi Prefectural Government of Japan, Daijiro
Hashimoto handed over a tsunami relief donation to the Minister of
Ports and Aviation Mangala Samaraweera yesterday at the 7th
symposium of International Network of Affiliated Ports (INAP 2005)
in Colombo yesterday.

Major plan to develop harbour cities
Ports and Aviation Minister Mangala Samaraweera
said yesterday that his vision is to develop areas where important
harbours are located into major cities. He said however, such plans
should be implemented based on an environment friendly approach.

Tendulkar inspires India to whip Sri Lanka
NAGPUR, India, Tuesday (AFP) Sachin Tendulkar smashed 93 off 96
balls on his return from an elbow injury as India whipped Sri Lanka
by 152 runs on Tuesday to take a 1-0 lead in the seven-match one-day
series.
President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga
visited the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens on Monday. Dr. Cicil
Wijesundera was associated with her on this visit. She was received by
the officials and employees of the Botanical Gardens. An orchid of the
phalaenopsis variety was named after her. She also met foreign visitors
and talked to them. She also planted a sapling to mark her visit.
