Around 40 per cent of them continue to live below poverty line. About 45 per cent of households in the country consume less than the recommended daily allowance of energy.

Mawella rises again from the ashes

THE Italian Ambassador, Pio Mariani, the FAO Country Representative, Mr. Chumsri Pote, Officials of Cooperazione Italiana (Italian Cooperation) and representatives of CIPSI in Italy and its Sri Lankan Partner PRDA, accompanied Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries, Chamal Rajapakse to Mawella, a tsunami ravaged village in the Hambantota District, on Saturday (29), to mark the completion of the first phase of the rebuilding of the homes and livelihoods of its people.
