Budget 2006 : New revenue proposals to raise Rs. 25,050 million


The Government plans to raise Rs.25,050 million through new revenue proposals introduced under the 2006 budget. Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama presenting the budget in Parliament yesterday said the total Government revenue in 2006 will be Rs. 477.1 billion which is 17.5 percent of GDP an increase from 16.4 percent projected for 2005.

Government bans import of poultry and products


The Department of Animal Production and Health has banned the import of live poultry, poultry products and poultry by products from all countries, Director-General of Department of Animal Production and Health Dr. S. Amarasekera told the media last Monday.
