The dawn of a common people's era
AT THIS moment an important event from the past comes to my mind.
The world's first Prime Minister too came from a small Parliament
such as ours. In 1970, I had the privilege of delivering the vote of
thanks after that great national leader, Sirimavo Bandaranaike made
her Throne Speech or policy statement. I still remember the
sentiments I felt at the time as the youngest MP in House.

Mahinda's mandate unshaken by UNP's figure twisters
THE UNP's inability to accept defeat gracefully shows political
immaturity and chicanery. It's howling that Mahinda Rajapakse did not
win at all, because his majority was very small, and his "victory" was
only because northern voters not polling.
