WEATHER FORECAST FOR 21st
JANUARY 2006
Cold weather ‘normal’
by Rajmi Manatunga
The cold day-time weather prevailing in most parts of the island is the result of the usual drop in temperature experienced during this time of the year, the Meteorological Department
said.
Meteorologist Nandalal Peiris told the Daily News that it was not unusual for Sri Lankans to experience cold weather these days since the country’s lowest temperature is normally reported in January, the traditional ‘winter’ period in the Northern
Hemisphere. “According to Sri Lanka’s usual weather pattern, the temperature gradually drops from December. The reason why we are starting to feel cold only in mid-January this time is because the country received continuous rain in the last few months,” he said. Peiris said that the cold weather might subdue again if Sri Lanka continues to receive rain in the coming weeks.
