Armed Forces, civilians celebrate Independence in Jaffna

ARMY and police personnel in Jaffna celebrated the 58th Independence Day with the offering of sweets and soft drinks to the civilians in the vicinity of their camps and stations on February 4.

The Armed Forces personnel hoisting Lion Flags in front of their camps in the North were seen happily talking to the civilians who went passing the camps.

The civilians were also appealed by the Army personnel to support in the efforts of making peace in the region. The Independence Day celebrations at the Jaffna Secretariat was on a low key where the National Flag was hoisted at the Secretariat premises.

Meanwhile, a huge black flag was put up at the Jaffna University premises with more black flags at the campus entrance.

Business establishments were functioning as usual and no untoward incident took place in the Peninsula with security put on high alert.
